Time to say goodbye, snif!

I was watching an interview with Ashton Kutcher when out of the blue he gets his Blackberry out of his jacket and start Twittering about the show. The host of the talk show stares at him and asked him what he thinks is so fascinating about Twitter. Kutcher said “I think it is a new way of entertainment. Besides that, Twitter gives you direct communication. When you post a message you get direct feedback. Furthermore, when something happens in the world the word spreads immediately”. The talk show host hives him a laugh and asked Kutcher if he is one of those people who Tweets everything he’s doing, beginning from the moment he wakes up. Kutcher answers “ This morning I’ve Twittered that I was going to Hawerd Stern”. The reaction of the host was if he didn’t have any friends! Kutcher laughs and says “ Yes I do, thousands in fact, I only call them followers”. The host was flabbergasted and says “ I even have trouble getting people convinced to watch my show!” .

Well, I think this is a perfect sketch to bring these blogs to a close! When they told I had to write ten blogs I thought “ Bleeeegghh, ten blogs? I can’t even write, I can’t make truthful, attracting and logical stories from lose words and sentences! How I’m I possibly going to write ten blogs!?”. I have to say, it wasn’t that bad ;). I’ve learned that it can even be fun and nice to write a blog, especially when you write about something you are interested in. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my blogs, and maybe I’ll write another one in the future.

A bit late: Tips for writing a blog!

Blogs are one of the fastest-growing means of mass communication. Articles about blogs, a form of online public journal, have appeared in the New York Times, Time, and Newsweek. The "blogosphere" has affected elections and corporate policy, and some blogs have thousands of readers a day. Moreover, they are fun to read, and writing them can be enjoyable too.

But how do you write a blog ? I went looking on the internet for useful tips, maybe it’s a bit late given that this is my ninth blog and I only have to write ten blogs… But here I present my favorite tips (ah, maybe I will write more blogs in the future, you’ll never now).

- Write with the reader in the mind. Your reader will read your post looking for what’s in it for him. Keep your reader interested, if you don’t have anything to say, then don’t! There are a lot of people who do.

- Prvent speling errors. You wouldn’t go out of the house with dirty hair or missing a sock either.

- Link like crazy. People don’t have the time to know what others are doing, you should tell them.

- 250 words is enough. A long blog is easier to forget and harder to come into.

- Include bullet point lists. We <3 lists!

- Write with passion, be consistent in you writing style and make your headlines snappy.

- Write like you talk.

Twitter and the elections

Now the elections are running and Rutte has won his first TV premier debate, the time has come to deepen myself into the politics. 1.3 million people watched the debate on RTL4. Afterwards Synovate asked 1000 people from their database to tell them who they are going to vote after this debate. Rutte won this debate with 34% followed by Cohen with 23%. Now the big question arises: What shall I vote? What are you going to vote?

To reach a broader voting public, RTL is going to experiment. On the second of June between 20.00 and 21.30 there will be a Twitter debate for all Twittering politicians. Will this way of using social media make younger people enthusiastic and interested in politics? The debate that took place Sunday definitely got the attention of the Twitter users. In the so called “trending topics” , #rtldebat was at the top of the list Sunday evening. An hour after the start of the debate over 10,000 tweets were placed with the #rtldebat topic. I’m curious if the Twitter hype will put more younger people to vote!

The man and the flat-iron

Last weekend I was in a discussion with masculine person which had a outspoken meaning about man and ironing: “ Woman iron, men don’t. So when we go live together she should iron my blouses”. He claimed he tried it before but it wasn’t a success because “men weren’t made for ironing”. Uhuh, that’s what I would say! This man is simply living in a pre-war imaginary world were the only thing men should do is making money and women should take care of the household. But we are living in 2010 now..




This issue, that only women should iron, is solved now by the manly flat-iron. The new flat-iron is in a black suitcase which should emit “manliness”. With the styling, a dark color composition, and the metal accents it has more to do with “a futuristic race-car than a classic flat-iron” according to Phillips. Phillips’ motivation for the innovation is simple; the normal flat-irons don’t feel powerful enough to feel the confidence for ironing all the wrinkled blouses into perfect smooth ironed blouses. Well, if you ask me, this has to be invented by a man! But if it motivates our man to iron their own blouses, than a lot of women will Phillips be thankful ;)
